English Riviera Cream Tea Festival
Cream first or jam? Everyone has their own opinion about how to spread your scones in a Devon cream tea. Well if you come along to the Cream Tea Day at Cockington on 20th April, you might just find out the answer.
Coinciding with the Queen’s Birthday and St. George’s Day, the English Riviera Cream Tea Festival is a celebration of all things English. From croquet to fish and chips and real ale to Morris Dancing, the festival promises six days of traditional merriment, all with a healthy dollop of clotted cream on top.
This quirky and eccentric inaugural festival runs from Friday 18 April to Wednesday 23 April 2008 and is packed with the sort of seaside shenanigans you’d expect from a resort famed as both the birthplace of Agatha Christie and Fawlty Towers.
Sunday 20th April - is Cream Tea Day and a massive traditional celebration in the stunning grounds of Cockington. A huge marquee will house one of the largest tea parties ever held, with local cream tea suppliers offering up their low fat (honest…) wares. And TLH Leisure Resort will be bowling up, flying the flag for the Aztec Bistro, giving out 2 for 1 cream tea vouchers.
The Toorak will also be doing it’s bit, featuring traditional English afternoon tea which will include Devon cream tea, strawberries and cream, speciality teas and champagne. Sounds great and I’m definitely first in the queue! Fish and Chip Day on Friday 18th April sounds good too, with traditional fish and chips being served in the Toorak Bar at lunchtime.
The Derwent are also getting in on the act with their Great British Houseparty 21st - 24th April. They’ll make sure that the St George’s Day celebrations go with a real swing, and with this being a drinks inclusive break, there’s no excuse not to raise a glass and join in the toasts to all that’s the best of British.
