It’s a Knockout - TLH enters the spirit

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

TLH It\'s A Knockout TeamOn Sunday 3rd August 2 intrepid teams representing TLH Leisure Resort and the Aztec Club entered the annual It’s a Knockout event on Paignton Green. It was great fun - honest - and everyone got soaking wet, especially as the weather wasn’t great! The best part of the day was everyone going into the sea at the lunch time break to gain 500 extra bonus points for the team!! Joss and Charlie from the Carlton Hotel even came prepared with bikinis so they didn’t get their t-shirts wet - now that’s what I call organisation! We all met down there at 9am and got the gazebo set up, mainly so I didn’t get wet! As soon as the breakfast van opened at 10am there was a rush for the bacon butties - supposedly to build up their strength! Aztec Club Team
Unfortunately, in spite of dedicated training in the Aztec Gym and pool, weTraining with Toby Lee Hound didn’t do as well as last year, with the Aztec team finishing outside of the top 8 and the TLH Leisure Resort Team team finishing 7th. But at least we raised lots of money for a great cause - Action for Blind People.  Over £1200 was raised by our 2 teams alone - so well done everybody.

Aztec Club BBQ Braves the British Summer

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

The sun setting in a pink sky, a balmy evening and the chink of glasses on the terrace – well that’s what we were hoping for on the 4th July when we held our very first Aztec Club members Bar-B-Q in the Aztec Bistro. Sadly it wasn’t quite the night we had planned because of the bad weather, but the Great British spirit kicked in and everyone seemed determined to enjoy themselves in spite of the rain.

The Bar-B-Q worked well, set up under the awning outside the Bistro and with the buffet laid up inside, nobody went hungry. Tequila Sunrises were served on arrival and the bar was kept busy for the rest of the evening. Chris Jackson kept the party mood going with a good choice of music, which got people up and dancing.

Being the 4th July, there was an American theme to the whole proceedings. One group really entered into the spirit of it all and turned out in glittery Stetsons and an Indian headdress! Sadly the Rodeo Bull had to be cancelled due to the wet weather – a shame for some of the more competitive gym members who had planned a ‘ride off’!

Club members thought the evening was a great success and are looking forward to the next members event. We’ll keep you posted.

The Aztec Bistro lends itself well to this kind of event and it has the flexibility to be an indoor or outdoor venue. The new Bistro Menus is now in place with a wider range of all day dishes giving you more flexibility – if you fancy popping in for a panini at 9pm – now you can! It may seem like we haven’t even had a summer yet, but Christmas Party Menus are available now.

Sun Newspaper lists favourite spas

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

A recent article in the Sun newspaper has stated pretty much what we all know be true - that after the excesses of the festive season, most of us will be thinking about a New Year detox. They go on to list the best places to take a pamper-filled spa break – as favoured by the stars – and feature our very own Aztec Spa, a favourite of TV soap celebrities Susan Penhaligon and Rebekah Gibbs.

So what have you done so far to get into shape for the new year? If the answer is nothing – then take a look at the list of treatments available at the Aztec Spa – quite a few are designed specifically to help you detox and shape up.

Kerry, our senior therapist, really recommends the Elemis Fennel Cleansing Cellulite and Colon Therapy – this intensive 55 minute therapy helps with fluid retention, poor circulation, and can help ease a congested digestive system. As well as cleansing your body, it will also leave your skin feeling firmer and smoother to the touch. Another great detox treatment is the Elemis Cellutox Aroma Spa Wrap.

And if you’re suffering with Winter skin, try the Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial. After a course of treatments, your skin’s radiance will be restored and it can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Don’t forget your hands and feet either, as they’ll really benefit from a luxury manicure or pedicure.

What are you waiting for - put some time aside and get a kick-start for 2008 in the luxurious surroundings of the Aztec Spa. There’s a full list of treatments available on the TLH Leisure Resort website, plus details about our latest Spa Breaks which include an overnight stay at the lovely Carlton Hotel, or you can call the Spa Team for advice on 01803 400190.

Hot Tips from the Aztec Club

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Stuck doing the same old cardio workout?
Why not start using a rowing machine? This is a good way to burn off fat, as well as using many different muscle groups including abs, back, chest, arms, hips, glutes and legs. Remember to start slowly, strap your feet in, draw in your abdomen and maintain good posture throughout the movement, always looking ahead.

Dieting Tip
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is important to your health and can help you to lose weight. Water is necessary for the metabolism of your stored fat. Weight loss cannot occur without and active metabolism, which requires large quantities of water.  Also, if you drink a large glass of iced water just before meals, the cold causes your stomach to shrink slightly and makes you feel full faster!

If you become a member of the Aztec Club at TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay,  our professional gym instructors can give you loads of tips to help you live a healthier lifestyle. And if you ask for one of the new health assessments, which includes body fat analysis, height, weight and fitness tests to name just a few, then you can get lots of help to set you on track towards a healthier lifestyle. It might sound a bit daunting, but the team are a really friendly bunch and just want to do their best to help you.

Take a look at the different membership options, or give us a call on 01803 400190.
